Description

Located amidst a complex of typical shophouses with different functions of each floor level, a modern pizzeria named Sliced Pizza PIK took place at the first level, having a shared entrance and stairs with other tenants at upper levels. At the beginning of the design phase, strategies to separate the flow subtly need to be incorporated while keeping the privacy of the main pizzeria area clear yet inviting for general visitors. Another challenge was to create a minimum intervention to the existing space as the construction process would be executed within a short time. The key strategies to merge the disconnected existing elements of the space into a unity are by creating continuous and repetitive elements, highlighted by dynamic interior elements, and a clear function of lighting design placement. The experimental value of the pizzeria itself is to provide a clean, cutting-edge space that enhances the sensory of the visitors while eating pizza, putting the dishes visually as the highlights at the table. Responding to the initial interior space where the space is limited, the main seating layout of the dining area is intentionally designed in a diagonal position to maximize the clear area for the main counter. While it also corresponds to the spatial geometry of existing stairs as a way to create unity within the space. The dead space under the stairs, therefore, can be utilized maximally. Enhancing the attractiveness of a clean and experimental pizzeria, the entrance area uses backlight glass-block materials that reflect the light from the interior area, while the backside of the facade area has a function of storage area. At the main area, all finishes are polished in white and subtly reflective galvalume materials, with an additional tree painted in white and highlighted with an uplight lamp to give a dynamic ambiance to the all-clean spatial lines and geometry.
