Description
Pandawa House is a renovation project designed to refresh the facade of an existing 405m2 residence. It responds to the need for a modern urban home while maintaining spatial quality, natural light, and privacy. The project is developed in three phases, following the owner’s timeline. Phase 1 focuses on the facade transformation. While the owner allowed a full redesign, we proposed an 'adaptive reuse' approach retaining the original building mass while updating materials and colors. The main intervention was converting the front outdoor balcony into an indoor space, introducing glass elements combined with screening features to maintain privacy. The existing palette, dominated by wood and white, was refined with earth-tone variations to create a warmer and more contemporary look. This phase is driven by a layering concept, enhancing the façade without altering its core form. Phase 2 continues with the ground floor outdoor area, from the carport to the BBQ space. Following the success of the facade, the owner aimed for a cohesive entrance experience. The design maintains wood as the dominant material, aligned with the updated facade. A previously passive garden corner was also transformed into an active BBQ area, increasing functionality. Phase 3 focuses on interior additions, including a lounge room and the reconfiguration of the attic. The attic, once unused, is now a functional hobby space. The interior explores a combination of HPL, veneer, and solid wood, creating a cohesive yet dynamic material expression. Overall, the project demonstrates how 'adaptive reuse' and layering can transform an outdated house into a fresh, modern home without losing its original character.
